2019 was our best year yet, and it’s all because of you! If you didn’t join us for walks, we wouldn’t have anything to do, we’d just be walking around talking to ourselves with no excuse to eat bacon butties! In all seriousness, just take a look at the image below. From walks with 1 person on we’ve certainly come a long way in just 2 years, so THANK YOU for making NeWTs such a brilliant group!
At the start of July, 7 of us took part in the Macmillan Northumberland Mighty Hike Marathon raising around £4000! August saw 6 of us struggling to compete with the wind on a 10k along Blackpool prom, and a longer walk along the Peak Forest Canal to Marple. Our September Discovery Day was a roaring success, which we’ll hopefully duplicate at our next one in February. We continued our fundraising with Henry’s Bimble to Hartshead Pike, with him raising £600 for Breathe Easy Oldham. The month was rounded off with one of our wettest walks around Broadbottom
As the year started to draw to a close we enjoyed a joint walk with Parks & Pathways Nordic Walking from Chadderton Hall Park to Tandlehills, started our Fit & Fabulous for Christmas sessions – well done to Anita for joining the most – “enjoyed” another wet walk to Mossley cross when we discovered some new waterfalls in Stalybridge, and took to the streets of Carrbrook for our Halloween Hike
In November we took part in The Windmill 10k, celebrated NeWTs 2nd birthday, and visited Dunham Massey to see the Christmas lights. We finished the year with our biggest walk yet when 27 NeWTs joined our Christmas walk, followed by a Christmas meal for 33
Phew! What a year! And 2020 will be even better!
