September Round-Up!

We’ve had a busy month, with two Discovery Days, 2 longer walks and a bumper crowd of 11 booking onto this month’s Learn To Nordic Walk courses!

Technically our first Discovery Day was in August (Saturday 31st) at Alexandra Park, Oldham. The day got off to an auspicious start when 2 of the gazebos blew away across the field! So we moved to the conservatory thinking it’d be warmer & drier. It wasn’t! The rain was so heavy it started raining inside 🙂 Congratulations to Sue who won our competition for a Nordic Walking course on the day!

The following week was lovely weather for our Discovery Day at The Allotment Cafe, and we have a lot of interest, with 14 people booking on tasters! Thank you to the cafe for letting us take over their outside area, and congratulations to Lynne who won our competition!

That weekend we also had Henry’s bimble to Hartshead Pike. Henry is 80yrs young, and has COPD and Parkinson’s Disease. He joined our wellbeing bimbles in November and says it’s the best thing he ever did. From struggling to walk 2 miles on the flat when he started, he managed a 5 mile round trip with a 500ft climb in less than 2hrs, and raised over £200 for Breathe Easy Oldham. He’s already talking about what his next challenge will be!

With the darker nights we started our Fit & Fabulous for Christmas walks. I know full well that everyone’s only coming for the loyalty cards! 🙂

We rounded out the month with a couple of walks around Broadbottom. The weather wasn’t the best to say the least, but everyone enjoyed getting out in the fresh air (although perhaps not the hills!) and were rewarded with some delicious food at Lymefield Garden Centre!
